The Hurbanovo Brewery

Tradition enhanced with modern brewing and malt-making procedures.

The brewery was established on 1 November 1964 in Hurbanovo that was characterised by climatic and strategic conditions ideal for constituting brewing industry in the region. Together with the brewery a malting was completed in 1967. Modern brewing and malt-making technologies and high quality allowed the products to penetrate world markets and become an attractive export item in a relatively short time. In 1971 the Hurbanovo Brewery became the first brewery in Eastern Europe to use can packing that endured testing in extreme conditions as part of the equipment of Slovak mountaineers conquering the eight-thousand-metre peaks of the world. The beer maintained its qualities and flavour despite the great temperature differences.

The economic setting after the change of the regime required modernisation of production processes, effective management, as well as legal transformation and re-organisation of the brewery into a joint-stock company.

In late 1995 the intention to enter the brewery was announced by a foreign investor, the international brewery holding Heineken. Its investment project was successfully applied and the original brewery production was gradually increased to the current almost 2 million hectolitres of beer per year.

The Hurbanovo Brewery may be proud of its most up-to-date and largest malting in Central Europe whose overall annual capacity reaches over 140 000 tonnes of malted barley that is partly used in the brewery itself while the major part of production is exported.
