Corgoň – its roots reach far back to 1896 when beer was first brewed in Nitra. It has been part of the Heineken Slovensko’s portfolio since the end of 1997 and it plays the role of a Slovakia-wide brand. As of 2003, Corgoň has been the most sold brand by volume ever in Slovakia. Since then, it has been the annually most sold beer in Slovakia.
The profile of Corgoň as a brand is that for friends and active relaxation with a team spirit and it presents itself as a sports fan. Corgoň is the traditional partner of Slovak football, already since 2000 it has been supporting the Slovak top football league, which has been carrying its name – Corgoň liga (the Corgoň League) – since 2003 when Corgoň became its main partner. Since last year Corgoň has also been the partner of Slovenský futbalový zväz (the Slovak Football Union), thus also that of the Slovak national football team. Between 1998 and 2006 Corgoň was also the partner of the Slovak national ice-hockey team.
Besides the most favourite 10-grade Corgoň, the brand also offers 12-grade beer and dark beer. Since the beginning of this year, all three variants have been packed in the new “tuned up” bottle. Similarly the labels have gone through an upgrade, however, they have kept their typical form reminding of a sports club’s coat of arms and their characteristic red colour.
The fresh red colours stand out exceptionally well on half-a-litre cans containing 10-grade beer that are sold individually, but also the longer the more liked 6-packs. The bottled 12-grade neither lags behind in popularity and the dark Corgoň also has its stable place with consumers. Corgoň is distributed into pubs around Slovakia in 50-litre kegs.
In the beginning of June 2007 Corgoň was introduced in a revolutionary packaging, in the practical 1.5-litre Maxi Bottle, which compared to other packaging provides consumers with many functional and practical advantages, e.g.: it can be closed back, it has a protective cap, it is light and unbreakable. Corgoň in Maxi Bottles is ideal packaging for a group of friends heading for the nature, for a swim, for barbecues, for camping etc. The Maxi Bottle is a specially developed multiple-layer packaging for beer preventing sun rays from entering the inside of the bottle and CO2 from leaking out of the bottle thus preserving the quality of the beer inside.
The quality of the Corgoň brand was confirmed in 2006 by the awards Bronzová pivná korunka (Bronze Beer Crown) in the category of 10-grade beers and Strieborná pivná korunka (Silver Beer Crown) for the dark beer category, awarded by the Slovenské združenie výrobcov piva a sladu (the Slovak Union of Beer and Malt Producers).
