14.08.2007

Such was the conclusion of expert judgment committees in the best Slovak bottled beer contest – Slovak Beer Crown 2007. Seven of the nine prizes were awarded to Heineken Slovensko brands. This year’s Crowns will be crowned on August 18 by Miroslav Jureňa, the Slovak Minister of Agriculture, at the Agrokomplex international exhibition in the city of Nitra.

In the second annual official professional sampling event the Zlatý Bažant beer completed its Beer Crown collection by winning one silver and two bronze Crowns. The silver Slovak Beer Crown was awarded to Zlatý Bažant in the dark beer category (up to 12 degrees), and bronze in light lagers (10 and 12 degrees).

The absolute winner of the 2007 Slovak Beer Crown is the best selling Slovak beer Corgoň which won all three categories. Thus beer was awarded Golden Crowns in the light lager category (10 and 12 degrees) and dark lager (up to 12 degrees) which reaffirms the high quality of traditional Slovak beers produced in the Hurbanovo brewery.

This year’s new arrival, a 10 degrees draught Kelt impressed the judges as early as in the first year of its existence on the Slovak market, and was awarded a Silver Beer Crown in the light lager category (up to 10 degrees). This is another great success of Kelt 10% following the most successful market launch in the history of Heineken Slovensko – in three months its sales reached the level of 50,000 hectoliters.

“We are very excited that excellent marks by expert judges awarded to us in the form of Slovak Beer Crowns are supported by growing interest of consumers in our brands,” said Dimitar Alexiev, Director General, Heineken Slovensko.

The second annual best bottled beer contest Slovak Beer Crown 2007 was sponsored by the Slovak Association of Beer and Malt Producers. The goal of the anonymous bottled beer sampling was to identify Slovak beers of the highest quality. The contest was open to Slovak beer makers who are members of the Slovak Association of Beer and Malt Producers. They had the opportunity to enroll all of their original brands. The sampling contest included 33 beer samples in three categories. Sensory evaluation committees awarded three best beers in each category.

The contest offered three categories:
1. Light beers (up to 10 degrees)
2. Light beers (up to 12 degrees)
3. Dark beers (up to 12 degrees)

Anonymous expert sampling took place on August 8, 2007 in the State Veterinarian and Food Institute in Bratislava. Sensory evaluation of samples was done by two independent expert evaluation committees. In addition to the above mentioned institutions the contest was co-organized by the State Veterinarian and Food Administration of the Slovak Republic, and the Slovak Technical University – Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology.
